    ABOUT DISTRICT COURT

    Krishna is the Administrative District of state of Andhra Pradesh with Machilipatnam as the Administrative Head Quarter and Vijayawada is the most populated city in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The history of this region dates back to the second century B.C ruled by Satavahanas, Pallavas, Chalukyas and later by Cholas, Kakatiyas, Reddy Dynasty and Gajapathi kings of Orissa. The District was named after river Krishna, the 3rd longest river in the India. The river flows through before it empties itself into Bay of Bengal near Hamsaladeevi of the Krishna District. The district is also well known for spirituality being blessed with goddess Kanakadurga on the banks of river Krishna at Vijayawada.

    Originally, in the year 1802, the provincial court of appeal with original as well as appellate jurisdiction over the territory covered by all the 13 districts in the present state of Andhra Pradesh was establish in Machilipatnam. Thereafter, it was in the year 1873, the Zilla Court was designated as District Court on Civil side and the court of Sessions on Criminal side. As per the records, the present Principal District and Sessions Court, Machilipatnam was established in the year 1882 after it was re-designated and the Bar Association of Machilipatnam has come into existence along with District Court in 1882.The present District Court building was built by William Augistis Jobin and the District Court has been functioning in the said building since its establishment in the year 1802.

    At present, there are 105 courts functioning in the entire district. Out of which 23 are District Courts, 22 are Senior Civil Judge’s Courts and 33 are Junior Civil Judge’s Courts,6-Spl. Magistrate Courts,01-Secretary,DLSA, 01-Chairman, Permanent Lok Adalat and 19 are Spl. Judicial Magistrate of II-Class Courts, in 21 various Court Complexes.
